Much of the bourgeoisie achieved a high level of education, often in the cities in which they lived. Most of the schools and universities were provided by the Catholic orders, especially by the Jesuits or Paulians. Students’ doctoral theses were placed as posters around the university and town, inviting academics, citizens and visitors to the city to a public discussion.
The religious orders organised many festivities and processions for students and citizens to attend, where theatrical performances, musical recitals or literary events entertained huge audiences. These religious festivities played an important role in public life and education.
